Betrayed - s/t 7"

Not too long ago I scored a bunch of '90s (and late '80s) hardcore records, including a number of records by bands I hadn't even heard of. Sometimes you just gotta go for it. It doesn't always turn out to be a good gamble, but every so often you come across a record that makes all the shitty records worthwhile. This 7" from 1991 by Betrayed, a band from upstate New York (I think?), definitely falls into the worthwhile category. They weren't the first hardcore band to be called Betrayed and they certainly weren't the last, and certainly weren't as well-known as the current ex-Champion/Carry On Betrayed, but they were one of the better ones for sure! This is damn solid early '90s metallic hardcore, with a really gifted and creative guitarist who totally gave this band a sound all of their own. The songs are great, and there are some killer riffs on here, I'm stunned, and sad, I have never come across this band before. But I'm glad I can now make up for it, hehe...

Anyways, I know nothing about this band really, so if anybody can share anything about this band, please leave a comment! Would love to know if they did anything else, if the members played in other bands before/after Betrayed (esp the guitarist!), etc... Either way, give this a chance, you won't regret it...

Definitly one of my favourite no-one-knows-about-this-band-but-they-are-actually-pretty-good records.

I also bought it in a lot of early 90's records together with some other cool bands such as Amenity and Forced Down. I definitly wasn't disappointed when I put it on for the first time.

I saw betrayed in the very early 90's and they had some great shirts that said "end racism"on them (their og singer was black too! sweet!). They were from Rochester, NY. The drummer steve blakely went on to be a pro snowboarder

Hmm. Wonder why Betrayed had such a relationship with scummy nazi-hatecore band No Alibi then?

Yep - I was the drummer in Betrayed. I happened to stumble upon your post through google. We were from Rochester NY and the band split in 1991 right after this 7" came out. I moved to Colorado and the band ended. The guitarist was Dave Kroll. I have no idea what he's doing now, but he was an amazingly talented musician. We went through three different singers over a few years. Funny story behind the 7" - we had studio time booked and our singer at the time (the black guy . . ) disappeared on us. Last minute we wound up calling in Erik to sing on the record, but he had no idea how to phrase the lyrics or anything. If you listen you can tell it sounds kind of awkward. We recorded it live (no tracks) in the studio. Anyway - great memories from that band - it was fun. Our farewell show was in the summer of 1991 in Syracuse opening for Burn.

(LJP - the last singer we had did have some less than desirable ties to some less than desirable skinhead types at points in his life. It wasn't representative of the whole band. Others of us had ties with some more positive things. We were in the tail end of it all at that point.)

I imported the 7" a while back and also converted our old demo tape to MP3. The demo is from the beginning of the band - Different singer (Andy) and way more hardcore than metalish then. Here's a link if you want it :: www.thefirmgraphics.com/dl/betrayed.zip

Oh yeah - Our guitarist played in another Rochester band called Citadel before Betrayed. Not sure if you'd be able to find anything anywhere from them . . . .

Steve, well thanks for clearing that up...

It's just that Chris Gawlick from No Alibi is simply a despicable hipster-nazi who, when I dealt with him on Facebook a couple of years ago, bragged with pride about the support Betrayed gave his band. I'm just glad they didn't succeed in hijacking the scene like they did in Buffalo. Nice to know not everyone in Betrayed had anything to do with nazi skins. If things were any different maybe I would have saw you when you were around, though, without No Alibi playing. (Luckily at the time I confused NA with a Southern Rock cover band of the same name, which would've sucked just the same...)

Possible to re-up? I used to have a dub of this 7" from my friend Kevin, who was the guitarist of Soulstice from Syracuse. I'd love to hear it again!
